I'll Explain Everything To The Geeks.

There are many things which in my mind make up a great band. Obviously, they need to be able to come up with some great tunes, but it's more than just that. They need to be able to captivate their audience, with just the right amount of confidence to show that they are true showmen (or women as the case may be) but not so much that they can be classed as arrogant. The singer must have a voice that somehow draws you in; be it deep and melancholy or angelic and haunting. Whatever instruments the band members play, they must ultimately come up with a sound which can be described as electrifying. Something which sends that "Oh my god, this is amazing" shiver down your spine. It doesn't matter if they play a hurdy gurdy or a trombone, they can still be rock n' roll. It's all in the way they play it.

Last night I went to see The National at Brixton Academy. And I can honestly say that was one of the most amazing gigs I've ever been too. You really felt their sincerity when they thanked the crowd for helping them sell out three nights at the venue. They seemed truly humbled by the prospect that thousands of people could want to come and see them play. The set list went as follows:

 Mistaken For Strangers
 Anyone's Ghost
 Slow Show
 Squalor Victoria
 Afraid of Everyone
 Bloodbuzz Ohio
 Lemonworld
 Lit Up
 All The Wine
 Conversation 16
 Sorrow
 Apartment Story
 Abel
 Green Gloves
 England
 Fake Empire

Vanderlyle Crybaby Geeks (unplugged)

It was a really special gig. I loved when they played Vanderlyle Crybaby Geeks unplugged and got everyone to sing along, it felt like a really intimate gig despite there being a crowd there five thousand strong. As we came out of the gig it decided it would snow, which despite freezing me to my very core (stupidly I'd only worn a dress, cardi, tights and a leather jacket) got me in the Christmassy mood. Besides, I was still buzzing from the gig. So at 12 midnight until half two in the morning I assembled and decorated my Christmas tree. As you do when you have to get up at 9 in the morning for work the next day. Here's some videos for your viewing pleasure. Until next time, Kez xxx
