Yes, it really seems like winter is taking hold now. Walking from work this
evening I could see my breath and it was so cold my head felt numb (to be fair
there's not a lot in there anyway). It can often seem like quite a thought to
have to drag out the old faithful knitted jumpers, winter coat and cosy boots
when we've gotten so used to wearing pretty floaty little dresses and sandals in
the summer sun. But my friends, wrapping up for winter needn't be a chore, it can
actually be rather fun! I will give you some of my hot picks for keeping cosy
this winter...
If you have a winter coat which has been like a dear old friend for the past few winters and is still in perfectly good nick, but just needs a bit of sprucing up, my top tip is
to get a fur collar. Be it real or faux fur (mine is real, sorry Mr Fox), this
does the trick! Not only does it look great and freshens up your coat/jacket,
but it is also really cosy. I find mine is much cosier than wearing a scarf, and it goes with everything! You can even wear it over the top of a lovely evening dress when you are going out. Mine is from Rokit, and they are very reasonable. They range from £10 to about £30, depending on the quality and whether it is real or faux fur. So head on down to Rokit Brick Lane (don't forget to say hi!) to get yours, or if that's not possible, go to http://www.rokit.co.uk/, and click on accessories.

Another key look is layering. Layering keeps you warmer, and can look amazing if you get it right. The key to layering is to go for items with different or clashing textures, patterns and colours. That way you create an instantly exciting outfit. For example, some lovely knitted leggings with a funky pattern, a pretty little dress, a check shirt and a chunky long cardi. More layers = more warmth and more fashion forward kudos to you! Topshop and H&M have got some lovely patterned leggings, and as for the check shirt and cardi, vintage shops are always the best, because they are usually quite cheap, and you get really quirky designs.
My final top tip is the full or mid length skirt/dress. For all those girls who are addicted to their dresses and skirts, winter needn't mean that that you have to banish them to the wardrobe until next spring. Just add a few extra inches to the length, and there you have it! You'll still keep warm but look fabulous doing so. If the dress/skirt is really long you can even wear your jeans underneath to keep even warmer and no-one will be any the wiser. The full and mid length dress/skirt is everywhere this season and I have to say I think they look really elegant. I still love my shorter dresses and skirts, but these make a lovely change for the winter. And the celebs like them too...
